Cupiosexual, previously known as Kalossexual is an orientation for those who desire, want, or seek out sex or sexual relationships without experiencing the sexual attraction typically "necessary" for it. Cupiosexuals are commonly Sex-Favorable but they do not have to be.

Cupiosexual may also be used by those who sometimes feel sexual attraction, but desire a sexual relationship even without attraction. For example, a demisexual person who dates someone on the assumption that they will develop sexual attraction later on, or a fraysexual person who dates someone after they lose their sexual attraction.

It is an orientation that falls under the Asexual Spectrum and can be used on its own or as an umbrella term (Cupiospec). Cupiosexual can be described as “the opposite of Orchidsexual”.

Etymology

The prefix comes from the Latin word cupio, meaning "to desire" or "to long for".

History

Kalossexual was coined by tumblr user Acelyssie on or before June 11, 2014.^[1] Cupiosexual was created when the problem with the word Kalos arised, with the earliest definition of the term possibly made by the now-deactivated tumblr blog Cupiosexual-Cupioromantic (possibly also the former Kalossexual-Kalosromantic tumblr blog).

The creator of Kalossexual, Acelyssie, and tumblr user Cupiosexual-Cupioromantic/Kalossexual-Kalosromantic may all have been the same person, seen as a tag Cupiosexual-Cupioromantic used was "lyssie reblogs" and Cupiosexual-Cupioromantic may have been the renamed Kalossexual-Kalosromantic following the term change.

Flags

The main flag was created sometime around June-July of 2014 by tumblr user Primadolly (now deactivated)^[2] and color-adjusted as the now most well-known flag by tumblr user Aro-Ace-Wonderwoman (deactivated, also possibly Acelyssie).^[3]

Before that, there was the Kalossexual/Kalosromantic flag consisting of bolder and darker colors than the main Cupio flag. It is currently unknown when and who created the flag, but it was made sometime before or around June 2014.^[4]
