Female is a fiaspec gender. It is part of the Western gender binary and is often associated with femininity and a connection to girlhood, as defined by one's society.

It includes cisgender, transgender, genderqueer and non-binary women. Some non-binary individuals may have a partial connection to being a woman/girl or femininity, in which case they may identify as a non-binary woman, woman-aligned and/or fiaspec.

"Female" is often used to denote sexual traits, and is typically not used in general conversation. It is also sometimes used to exclude transfeminine individuals. "Woman" is a term used for adults, while "girl" is used for children and teenagers[1].

Individuals who were assigned female at birth are often raised with the expectation that they will identify as women, but not all AFAB individuals are women nor are all women AFAB. While identifying as a woman is often associated with femininity and a feminine gender expression, women do not have to present in a feminine manner, and not all individuals who are feminine identify as women.

The astronomical symbol for Venus is the most common symbol for women. It represents the hand mirror of the Roman goddess of love, or possibly a distaff or necklace. It is also the alchemical symbol for copper.

The woman flag was created by Tumblr user Trintinic on December 29, 2017[2]. The dark pink represents binary women, pink represents those who identify partially as women and white represents multigender individuals who have female as one of their genders.

The female flag was designed by Tumblr user acro-pluris on September 18, 2020[3], based on a stamp by DeviantArt user silencethefox[4]. There is no known meaning.
