Ironicgender is a gender defined both as any gender used to hide one's true gender identity when wanting to remain anonymous, or as a gender with some level of irony or comedy to it. Ironic- can be used as a prefix to apply this experience of gender to another label (eg. ironicboy, ironicgirl, ironicenby, etc.)

The "ironic-" part of ironicgender comes from the English word "irony", defined both as expressing something opposite to what you think (usually for comedic effect), and as a situation that is either strange or funny because it unfolded in a way that feels opposite to what you expected.[1]

This identity is not widely known or used, but has had a small amount of controversy surrounding it. Some believe that the term may have been coined by somebody trying to troll the LGBTA Wiki, citing both the trollface on the flag,[4] and that the creator of the term has not made any contribution to the Wiki since creating and defending this term's page.[5] The creator argued against the trollface on the flag being an indication of a troll label by pointing out that the trollface is a common symbol in online ironic comedy.[6]
