Male is a miaspec gender. It is part of the Western gender binary and is often associated with masculinity and a connection to boyhood, as defined by one's society.

It includes cisgender, transgender, genderqueer and non-binary men. Some non-binary individuals individuals may have a partial connection to being a man/boy or masculinity, in which case they may identify as a non-binary man, man-aligned and/or miaspec.

"Male" is often used to denote sexual traits, and is typically not used in general conversation, it is also sometimes used to exclude transmasculine individuals. Man is a term used for adults[1], while boy is used for children and teenagers[2]. "Guy" is typically used casually in conversation, typically used for younger men[3].

Individuals who are assigned male at birth are often raised with the expectations that they will identify as men, but not all AMAB individuals are men nor are all men AMAB. While identifying as a man is often associated with masculinity and a masculine gender expression, men do not have to present in a masculine manner, and not all individuals who are masculine identify as men.
